Feeding Minds, Fighting Hunger

In Tanzania, where rural children may receive only one meal a day, children often go to school hungry. When children are hungry, school attendance falls and dropout rates increase. In school children have difficulty concentrating, their cognitive abilities diminish, and they lack energy. They are also more susceptible to disease.

In Naitolia, TPP has partnered with the village and parents to provide water and food to re-initiate a school feeding program for approximately 500 children. The children are getting a nutritious meal of maize and beans. Attendance has risen and children are now able to concentrate on their studies. TPP support came at a crucial time when students were studying for exams. As a result the school achieved the second highest pass rate in the District. The former Prime Minister visited Naitolia to congratulate the school and praise the children for their success.
