    A five-year, $13 million collaboration between Michigan State University and The MasterCard Foundation will help 15,000 young people access employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in the fast-growing horticulture, aquaculture, poultry, cassava and oilseed sectors in Tanzania and Nigeria.

    During the spring break, The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program took a trip to New York City with second year graduate students. Scholars gained exposure to the city and culture and received practical leadership training. They visited various historical sites and popular political and cultural landmarks like the American Museum of Natural History, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, and the Acting to Succeed Academy.

    Fifteen proposals have been chosen as the recipients of the Alliance for African Partnership's first-ever grant competition. The proposals were selected from more than 60 responses to the AAP's inaugural call for proposals.

    The grants were awarded to proposals that exemplified the AAP mission of effecting positive change in Africa through meaningful, equitable partnerships.

    MasterCard Scholars Awarded at Model African Union Conference Published: Tuesday, 28 Feb 2017

    Eight Michigan State University MasterCard Foundation Scholars participated in the 15th annual International Model African Union Conference at Howard University in Washington, D.C, representing the distinguished countries of South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The MAU team from MSU won four prestigious awards that commended their leadership and outstanding performance during the conference.

    Artemis Spyrou: The International Search for Cosmic Knowledge Published: Friday, 17 Feb 2017

    Artemis Spyrou studies the cosmos. Comparing atoms and planets, stars and galaxies can tell us a lot about the universe we live in. An associate professor and the associate director for Education in Nuclear Physics, Artemis was Born in Limassol, Cyprus. She first fell in love with nuclear physics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Since 2007 she has been heavily involved at MSU's own National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL).

    MasterCard Foundation Scholars Win Essay Contest - Featured in MSU Alumni Magazine Published: Monday, 13 Feb 2017

    Two of Michigan State University's MasterCard Foundation Scholars won The Office for International Students and Scholars' (OISS) annual International Essay Contest. The essay contest began in 2004 with the goal of building "greater cross-cultural understanding and [learning] from the experiences of international students" whose time living outside of their own culture has led to powerful insights and inspiring stories.

    Ariana Angarita Medrano was born in Bolivar, Venezuela. Her introduction to the science of genetics happened at a very young age when her aunt, bioanalyst Clemencia Medrano, showed her the work she performed at the laboratory. Her passion and curiosity for the field led her to study genomics and molecular genetics at Michigan State University.
