Africa's global political and economic impact, and young Africans' share of the labor force, are both going to increase in the next 20 years. But, more than half of Africa's unemployed and underemployed population are youth. Research by Michigan State University, in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, examines the potential for African agrifood systems to provide employment opportunities for Africa's youth, focusing on Tanzania, Rwanda and Nigeria.

The essay contest, titled "Working Together to Create the Africa We Want," invited African citizens between the ages of 15-24, to describe their desired future for Africa and the role of youth in that future.
